Your Essential Digital Toolkit in the United Kingdom
Stepping into March and April, the UK finally bids farewell to its long, cold winter and welcomes a vibrant spring! When it comes to spring, cherry blossom viewing is an absolute must. In fact, there are countless stunning cherry blossom spots in the UK that absolutely rival those in Japan or Taiwan. Taking the family to the park for a weekend stroll, a picnic, and some beautiful photos is definitely a favourite spring activity for UK residents.
Today, we've compiled a list of the most popular cherry blossom photo spots across the UK. Bookmark them quickly and get ready to head out!
When talking about cherry blossoms in the UK, Greenwich Park absolutely tops the list! Outside the Ranger's House in the park, there is a straight path surrounded by two dense rows of cherry trees. When in full bloom, the branches intertwine to form a dreamy "pink cherry blossom tunnel." However, it's extremely popular, so we recommend going on a weekday morning to avoid the photo-taking crowds.
As London's largest royal botanical garden, Kew Gardens features a dedicated "Cherry Walk" (located behind the Rose Garden). A wide variety of cherry blossoms are planted here, such as Yoshino and Kanzan cherry trees. Therefore, the overall viewing period is longer than in regular parks, lasting from mid-March all the way to late April.
If you don't want to travel too far, Regent's Park in central London is also a great option. Near the Chester Road entrance and the Avenue Gardens, a large number of double-flowered cherry trees are planted. When they bloom, the petals are large and full, making them perfect for close-up portraits.
This royal park, surrounded by Buckingham Palace, has many weeping cherry trees planted along the lake. The most perfect angle for a photo captures the lake, the pink cherry blossoms, and the "London Eye" or Buckingham Palace in the distance, offering a uniquely London vibe.
Want to take cherry blossom photos with a British town flavour? You must visit Notting Hill. Especially around Stanley Crescent, the blooming cherry trees paired with the colourful Victorian-style houses (pink and blue facades) in the background create a composition that will absolutely eat up your phone's storage!
Located on the south bank of the River Thames, Battersea Park features a very straight Cherry Tree Avenue. The path here is flat and wide, and the cherry trees are neatly lined up, making it perfect for families pushing prams for a stroll, or for laying down a mat for a picnic on the adjacent grass.
Located in Northeast England, The Alnwick Garden boasts a cherry orchard named the Tai Haku Orchard, planting over 300 extremely precious "Tai Haku" (Great White) cherry trees. Unlike the common pink cherry blossoms, Tai Haku petals are pure white, and the flowers are exceptionally large. Hundreds of white cherry trees blooming simultaneously look like a blanket of snow—a truly spectacular sight!
Harrogate is a very elegant spa town. The Stray in the town centre features a cherry blossom promenade hundreds of metres long. Every spring, the old cherry trees on both sides carpet the grass with a pink floral blanket, making it a favourite spring walking spot for northern residents.
For friends living in Manchester or the Northwest, Tatton Park is highly recommended! Besides the deer herds, the most special feature is its highly authentic Japanese Garden. In spring, the traditional Japanese bridges and flowing water paired with blooming cherry blossoms will absolutely cure any homesickness for Japan.
In Manchester city centre, Sackville Gardens next to Canal Street is a hidden gem for cherry blossom viewing. Additionally, Manchester's cherry blossoms are often scattered along streets in residential areas, such as the tree-lined avenues of Didsbury or Altrincham. Once spring arrives, both sides of the street can suddenly turn into a delightful pink surprise.
Besides a rich variety of spring flowers, this century-old botanical garden also features a dedicated Japanese section. Various cherry blossoms and Magnolias bloom in succession, making it perfect for a relaxing half-day out.
When it comes to cherry blossoms in Scotland, The Meadows is absolutely unparalleled! This massive park near the University of Edinburgh features long tree-lined avenues packed with spectacular cherry trees on both sides. Due to the higher latitude, Edinburgh's cherry blossoms usually bloom one to two weeks later than London's (around late April to early May). The grass is often filled with picnicking students and families, creating a fantastic atmosphere.
Take advantage of the warm spring weather and blooming flowers—prepare a picnic mat and a packed lunch, and invite some friends to experience the most romantic season in the UK! If you're heading to the supermarket beforehand to buy snacks and drinks for the picnic, don't forget to open our Costxx Shopping Helper to track your spending as you shop, or check the Stock Tracker to see if anyone has reported good deals on picnic food!
